Welcome to the website of the First Presbyterian Church of Cheyenne, WY! In this site you will meet some very dedicated Christian people who make up the membership of this congregation. As the pastor/head of staff since October of 2000, I have seen how deeply our congregation loves the Lord and one another. Our vision for Christian ministry is “Bringing People Together in Christ’s Love.” It is indeed out of Christ’s unconditional love for us that we reach out to you in his name to say that every one is welcome to the worship and activities of this church. Come as you are!
We enthusiastically offer inspirational and Christ centered traditional Presbyterian worship services every Sunday morning that include Bible based sermons, a variety of hymns, choir and bell choir anthems, and active participation by the congregation. Again, come as you are!
We also invite you to our Sunday morning Sunday school classes and Bible studies for all age, and to our dynamic youth group worship and meeting on Sunday night.
During the week we offer a variety of Bible studies and social activities which you will find listed on our website and you are welcome to attend.
If you are interested in membership in First Presbyterian Church, we offer classes for potential new members so that you may be fully informed on what we believe, and what it means to be a member which may include baptism, if you have not been baptized before. In the classes we cover what Presbyterians believe about the Bible, about God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, the sacraments (Baptism and the Lord’s Supper), Presbyterian Statements of faith, worship, and church membership. We also cover the history, government and activities of the church. Please contact the church office 638-3345 for more information.
First Presbyterian Church was begun as a mission church by the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) in 1869, and have been a steady Christian presence in Cheyenne and Wyoming ever since. This mission spirit and desire to spread the good news of Jesus Christ extends to local mission projects to help the homeless and people who struggle financially. We have also stretched God’s gift of love and our financial giving to disaster relief in the U.S.A and across the world, a mission trip to Rose Bud Reservation in South Dakota, Presbyterian Churches in Iraq, AIDS patients in Africa, and hospitals in Haiti. We shall continue to be a part of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and support its mission for Jesus Christ locally and internationally. Come and be a part of our mission for God in Jesus Christ.
On a personal note, I was raised a Presbyterian in the Pittsburgh, PA area and was ordained by the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) in 1973. My wife, Holly, works for the Wyoming Department of Education. We are the parents of two grown children and five granddaughters. We love living in Cheyenne, WY and being a part of this congregation.
