Worship and Music

Worship

First Presbyterian Church of Cheyenne is an exciting church that draws people to it by its rich traditions of great preaching, active youth ministry, and education programs for all ages. In the Gospel of John, Jesus says, “God is Spirit and those who worship God must do so in spirit and truth.” (John 2:24) For two millennia, followers of Jesus have been gathering to give thanks to God and to celebrate the presence of Christ in their midst. At First Presbyterian Church we consider it an enormous privilege to continue this tradition. We provide two opportunities on Sunday to worship in spirit and truth.

Worship Leaders

Our members and friends also help in making our worship services special. By serving as Ushers, Greeters, Acolytes, and Lay Readers, we can enjoy more of the talents our people have to share. Contact the church office if you are interested in helping in one of these areas vital to our worship services.

Ushers and Greeters – Volunteering to meet and greet, these important people help all of us feel welcome on Sunday morning. Ushers hand out bulletins and collect the offering each Sunday. After worship they offer a weekly devotion brochure for everyone as they exit the sanctuary. Greeters offer to help people as they enter the building and answer questions for visitors.

Acolytes – Our youth from 3rd grade and up are welcome to be the acolytes for our services. Lighting our candles at the beginning of service and “carrying the light of Christ back into the world” at the end of the service truly enlightens our worship services.

Lay Readers – Give their assistance during worship by helping with the worship liturgy. VOLUNTEERS, both youth and adults, lead the congregation in the call to worship, prayer of illumination, and reads one of the scripture lessons. It is a reminder to us all that we are part of the priesthood of all believers.
